TBR welcomes V.S. Nelson

TBR: Welcome to TBR, V.S. Will you share a little bit about yourself?
V.S.: I’d be happy to. Let’s see where to begin. I’m a Native American and a Scorpio who not only loves writing but loves reading everything I can get my hands on. I retired from my teaching career and currently live in sunny Arizona where I am an active member of three RWA chapters.

TBR: Tell us Eternal Lovers – Sekhmet’s Guardians – Book One and where it's available.
V.S.: As you probably guessed Eternal Lovers is the first book in an eleven book series. Paranormal in nature, Eternal Lovers mixes Native American lore with ancient Egyptian mythology in a modern day romance. I tend to call the series my night time soap since the stories revolve around a band-of-seven - brothers who came to Earth some 5000 years ago.
The book is available worldwide in paperback and e-format through Amazon and retail book outlets. Links to the U.S. Amazon site are below.

V.S.:
SEKHMET’S GUARDIANS – BOOK ONE – ETERNAL LOVERS
BLURB
When two hidden worlds collide near modern day Lake Michigan, Jennifer, a young Native American, is confronted with the reality, not everything is as it seems and things do go bump in the night. The questions she has long since asked are answered in this epic tale of self discovery when she meets Gabriel, the director of Guardians Incorporated.
Born in New Tuat, Netchkhet, now known as Gabriel came to Earth some five thousand years ago to protect the human race.
Disillusioned by an unfulfilled prophecy, he has become cold and distant – even from those of his kind. He secretly waits for his enemy to take his head so he may leave this world for good.
Can a tiny Selkie melt his hardened heart and restore his faith in a power far greater than himself?
When history repeats itself, can he save her from death’s embrace or will they be robbed of a future again?

TBR: What inspired you to write about the theme?
V.S.: Gabriel, the leader of Sekhmet’s Guardians refused to let me sleep or rest for months. Finally, I gave into his demands and began to listen to him. I guess I would say I originally wrote down the first of his stories thinking it would shut him up. I became enthralled with stories he showed me… usually through dreams. After sharing the first story with a couple of writer friends of mine they suggested I seek publication for them. I had no idea, one story would turn into eleven books.

TBR: Are you a plotter or pantser?
V.S.: Pantser. My stories come from my dreams. I merely put down on paper what I have been shown during the night.

TBR: How do you develop your characters?
V.S.: I really don’t think I have any say in the development of my characters. They show me who and what they are as they see fit.

TBR: Any tips or tricks for world building you’d care to share?
V.S.: World building can be fun and exciting but one of the most important things I can think of is when you create a world with a believable story line stay true to the rules of the world. Too many times I have read other series where the author has long since established the rules of the world only to have them broken in a later edition to the series.

TBR: Which of your characters would you most/least like to invite to dinner, and why?
V.S.: Bagsu. Bagsu is Gabriel’s identical twin brother who is the leader of Set’s Legions – the bad guys who are dead set on destroying the world we as humans live in. He’s one nasty fellow who I would just as soon see destroyed.

TBR: While creating your books, what was one of the most surprising things you learned?
V.S.: When listening to your characters never take anything for granted. They always have a few tricks and surprises up their sleeve.

TBR: Tease us with one little thing about your fictional world that makes it different from others.
V.S.: Where most band-of-brother paranormal series concentrate on the male heroes I can honestly say that my series sheds a new light on the feminine aspect or heroines. Eternal Lovers is not only a book with hunky heroes it is a story of Jennifer’s (heroine) growth. Born a Native American with special gifts she has learned to hide her unique talents from others. It is only after meeting Gabriel and the others of his kind that she comes into her own. No longer a meek and mild woman who lacks self confidence she becomes one kick ass female who is afraid of nothing. By book three she leads the other women, both human and immortal as a separate fighting force connected with Sekhmet’s Guardians.

TBR: What's next for you?
V.S.: Book two, Eternal Nights is scheduled for release in May followed by book three, Eternal Blades the first of December. I’m also working on several other novels not connected with the series.

TBR: Any other published works?
V.S.: Cupid and Penelope.

Island Bound
by Kiru Taye

Blurb
Marriage has stripped their relationship of its thin, rose-tinted coating, and bared their monochromatic existence for what it was. Will Joshua and Christy get a second chance this holiday season?
When Christy Inemi-Spiff discovers that the man she vowed to love and honor has no such feelings for her, she’s determined to cut her losses and move on with her life. A quick, quiet divorce is all she wishes for Christmas.
However, Joshua has other ideas. He’s not ready to walk away yet, especially when he doesn’t understand why Christy wants out of their marriage. So he demands she agree to spend a quiet Christmas on a remote African   Island with him, hoping they can salvage their relationship. If she still wants a divorce after these two weeks, he will let her go. But not before he’s had his fill of her.
But with the sparking tension between them, and the secrets behind the disintegration of their marriage threatening to explode, will either of them get their wish? Or will this season of good will show them what really lies at the bottom of their hearts?

Excerpt
“Why are you doing this?” she challenged. Her emotions rolled, making her feel unbalanced. It had been a long three months. And it seemed like today was only going to get worse.
“Christy, you know the reason. If you stopped long enough and thought about it hard, in your heart, you’ll know.”
“You can stop this.” She struggled to contain her anger. “You started this; you can end it.”
  “I know, but I won’t.”
“You, you—” Enraged, she lifted a hand to slap him.
Joshua caught her hand midair, held it tight. Before she could react, he pushed her back against the wall, pinning her to it with his rigid body. Christy felt every bit of him, his strength, and his physical nature that he never bothered to hide.
“I think I have the perfect answer for all your bottled-up rage,” he said as he parted her thighs with his leg.
“Move,” she ordered, her throat dry and croaky, betraying her increasing apprehension.
Joshua had it easy. He was a man at home with his masculinity. She had never been able to resist him. He could have any woman he wanted. Sometimes, she wondered if he had, especially during their separation. She shouldn’t care if he’d been with anyone else. After all, her goal was a divorce. Still, she couldn’t suppress the intensity of her feelings. Perhaps her anger and hatred drove the concentration of her emotions.
“We have to get a few things sorted out first,” he replied.
He moved closer, his body flush against hers; his chest crushed her breasts, his thighs pressed against hers. Though she wore cotton trousers and a tank top, all of him stroked her.
“What are you doing?” she asked as she pushed against him.
He didn’t budge. “Just trying to relieve some of your frustration. That’s what all your aggression has been about, isn’t it?”
  “Rubbish!”
“Such vehement denial, when the evidence is so obvious.”
Her face stung with revealing heat as warm blood rose in her body. Mortified, she tried to move to shake him off, but only managed to get her body even more entangled with his.
Her breathing came in short snatches. She became more aware of Joshua, his hardness and heat.
“I hate you.” Her voice sounded strangled. Blistering white rage swept through her.
  “You lie, sweetheart.”
He lowered his head, trailing his lips against her cheeks in a tormenting caress.
  “You love me.”

TBR welcomes Cait O'Sullivan

TBR: Welcome to TBR, Cait. Will you share a little bit about yourself?
Cait: Thanks so very much for having me here! I’m a romance author with a love of words and magic, having had the good fortune to grow up in Ireland. The wanderlust in my blood sent me out to travel the world and now, residing in a leafy suburb of London, it is my thoughts and memories that journey far and wide in order to create my stories.

TBR: Tell us about Romancing the Seas and where it's available.
Cait: Sous-chef Pippa Renshaw thinks a change of scene will mend a bruised heart, so she swaps her job in a prestigious London restaurant to head-chef on a cruise ship sailing around New Zealand. A great plan until she meets her new CEO, the delectable Jonathon Eagleton, and discovers she has to share a suite with him.
Even though sparks fly whenever they are together, Jonathon steadfastly keeps her at arm’s length, which suits Pippa just fine because she’s still getting over the betrayal of the last time she had a relationship with the boss.
The situation is starting to feel like solitary confinement until a thunderstorm traps them in a tramper’s hut while hiking. Suddenly a different kind of storm unleashes inside the hut.
But will they be able to go back to their previous status now the line has been crossed?

Buy Romancing the Seas:
Amazon           |          Amazon.co.uk |                        BookStrand                 |           Crimson Romance

TBR: Are you a plotter or pantser?
Cait: A little bit of both, I like to know where the story is going but find if I plot too much, my characters rebel.

TBR: How do you develop your characters?
Cait: I’m really bad at this, in that I pretty much allow my characters to develop themselves. I’m well aware I should have an arc, but they seem to fall within it all on their own. And hey, who am I to complain?!

TBR: Do you have a favorite quote you’d like to share?
Cait: To be in love with the Universe is to be free. I know, very hippy dippy, but I love it.

TBR: Did any music inspire your book? Do you have a playlist?
Cait: I love West African music, esp Baaba Maal, anything with the kora or for a beautifully edgy and amazing mix, Afro Celt Sound System. I have several playlists but can’t listen to music as I write. Although I have tried writing words when Afro Celt is playing which is fun, turns into poetry. In motion LOL

TBR: Tease us with one little thing about your fictional world that makes it different from others.
Cait: oooh, the fact that Pippa and Jonathon are working aboard a cruise ship, sailing around New Zealand, or the hiking they do in that most beautiful of countries. I love New Zealand and think it’s very apparent in the book.

TBR: What's next for you?
Cait: Well, I have another contemporary in the works, just looking for a home at the moment, The Tango Champion.
London TV presenter, Ava Whittaker, has had a baby by Matthias de Romero, the man she loves. The problem? He doesn't know. Fast forward two years and he’s the judge on a new dance show – one where she's a contestant.
Matthias de Romero leaves the girls, not vice versa. So how come the one girl who caused his embittered heart to stir walked out?  Two years later, still in search of answers, he allows himself to be talked into becoming a judge on a brand new London television show 'To Dance or Not to Dance'.
Will the glitterball – and her secret – cause their intense feelings to burn out or fan further the flames of desire?

TBR: Any other published works?
Cait: Sefton Manor is coming out this year with Musa Publishing, a Gothic romance short story, it’s fun, fast paced and hot! I love it J
